Thato Magano is currently pursuing his MA in Political Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand. He is co-partner at Vanguard Media, the publishers of www.vanguardmagazine.co.za as well as Strategy Director at Ponelesego Youth Development Projects. In a previous life, he was the youngest academic in the Department of Marketing and Communication Management at the University of Pretoria and a branding enthusiast at Cadbury South Africa.

Thato Magano is a partner at Vanguard Media, the publishers of Vanguard Magazine, a multi-platform media company aimed at young black women identified as ‘code-switchers’. He has both corporate and academic experience in the area of integrated marketing and communications strategy as well as general strategy.
At 23, he was the youngest lecturer in Strategic Marketing and Communication at UP. After a year with UP, he moved to Mondelez International (previously Kraft Foods and Cadbury’s) first working on a communication strategy project for the Central Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEEMA) Procurement Director.
After 18 months, he moved to brand management and worked on the chewing gum category, focusing on the Clorets brand and working on launches across the broader category with brand communication strategy facilitated by Ogilvy Cape Town and Carat Media Agencies.
In 2013, he worked with the Gordon Institute of Business Science’s (GIBS) Centre for leadership and Dialogue on their flagship programmes, Leading Women and the Old Mutual sponsored youth programme, Spirit of Youth.
In 2010, he had a brief 4 month stint as Public Relations Officer (PRO) at the UNISA Graduate School of Business Leadership.
He is currently pursuing his MA in Political Studies at the University of the Witwatersrand. He holds a BCom (Honours) in Marketing and Communication Management from the University of Pretoria (UP) in Pretoria, South Africa.
